Harold Kurstedt has 40 years experience teaching systems engineering, management systems engineering, and relationship competence to technical professionals. Recently, he completed a treatise on finding the hidden leverage points in organizational dynamics using systems thinking, called Enduring Relationships: The Story of Building, Maintaining, and Recovering Relationships. Harold recently retired as the Hal G. Prillaman Professor Emeritus of Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech, as an award-winning professor. He has created and managed large organizations of technical professionals in the research environment. Harold is well published in the engineering, management, and systems thinking/dynamics disciplines. Harold is now an active consultant, trainer, and executive coach in industry and government.
Although he has retired multiple times, he can always be pulled out of retirement by an interesting project. Currently, he is writing a book on miracles he’s seen occur in his life experience. He enjoys pursuing corporate coaching as much as possible to influence future leaders.
Catherine Todd has over 23 years experience supervising, managing and leading in a variety of military positions at the O-6 level, including a military instructor pilot in multiple aircraft. She has taught management systems engineering and directed educational operations for a major weapons system in the military, including instructional systems design and courseware development. She has degrees in Industrial and Management Systems Engineering and Leadership from Virginia Tech and Masters from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is a certified IT professional, PMI-Project Management Professional, Scrum Master, SAFE Scrum Master and SAFE Lead Agilist, and Agile Coach. She has conducted Joint Knowledge Management-Command & Control Battle-rhythm analyses for the Joint Staff, CENTCOM and NORTHCOM. She has taught management engineering, project management and leadership courses with Newport Group, LLC since 2014. The Newport Group LLC, founded in 2004, combined with Covered Bridge Leadership, LLC to carry on Harold and Pamela Kurstedt’s work dedicated to improving management and leadership in complex organizations through a systems approach.
ROSANNE KURSTEDT, PhD
Rosanne Kurstedt has over 20 years experience teaching communication skills to students and teachers. She has served as a school administrator, is a published author and serves as a consultant to educational organizations. Rosanne completed her Doctorate at Fordham University using systems thinking in her dissertation and serves as an Adjunct Professor. She lived in Hong Kong where she was part of the development and leadership team that opened Hong Kong Academy international School. As the Assistant Regional Advisor of the New Jersey Chapter of the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators, she helps other authors and illustrators navigate the children’s book industry and hone their craft. She’s also the founder of The Author Experience, a 501(c)3 organization committed to the transformative power of sharing stories. She has consulted with many school systems and educational publishing companies in curriculum development and teacher training. In addition, Rosanne served as Vice-President of her local school board and is an articulate communicator about leadership and the vision required to propel organizations forward.
